How to choose a removalist

Moving can be a big and daunting task. You need to be organised so the move will happen as smoothly as possible.

A huge part of moving will come down to the removalist you choose. Picking a removalist that has experience, is reliable, efficient and affordable is a must.

When it comes to making your decision there are a few things you need to consider. With many different kinds of removalists and options out there, it can be quite confusing but there are a few things to consider to ensure you make the right choice. Check out our tips below on how to find a removal company.

1. CHOOSE THE RIGHT SERVICE

Make sure you look at removalsits that offer the services you require.

Do you need a local removalist? Interstate? Are you moving house or an office? Do you require additional services such as pre-packing and bond cleans? Do they have the right equipment?

Make sure you consider these factors. Say for instance you are moving office, you wouldn’t pick a company that specialises in home removals.

2. ENSURE THEY HAVE INSURANCE

This is probably the most important part of choosing a removalist. Making sure your items are delivered safely and in one piece is no doubt one of the main reasons for opting to use a removalist.

Make sure to read reviews and ask questions regarding their process to ensure your items are treated with the utmost care. However accidents can always happen, so insurance is a must.

3. REQUEST AND COMPARE QUOTES

Before you book a removalist, it is important to know the costs involved. Make sure you know exactly what is included and what are add ons. Is packing and unpacking an additional cost etc?  Look into companies that have over 10 years of experience and have a good reputation. These business typically have more experience with different scenarios and prepared to handle any curve balls that may come their way.

Ask for a breakdown of costs so you know what to expect as many factors can affect the price of your move.

Consider asking questions like :

  • Is the price per hour or for the entire job?

  • Do prices change after a certain period of time?

  • Does the rate include driving time to and from the job?

  • How many removalists will be at the job?

  • What other services are offered? Ie: pre-packing, bond cleans etc.

  • Do they offer on-site quotes?

  • Are boxes provided?

  • What kind of removal truck will be used?

  • What happens if my property is damaged?

  • Do they charge extra if you have stairs or if your property is located in a narrow alley etc?

Be wary of removalists that offer really cheap moving rates as this usually ends up resulting in unexpected extra costs.
